Veneers

WHAT ARE veneers?

Veneers are a cosmetic solution that enables you to totally redesign your smile.

They’re thin, tooth-shaped coverings that Dr. Rapal permanently seals to the front side of your teeth, where they cover up aesthetic defects and give you a flawless and symmetrical smile.

Veneers are typically made from either porcelain or composite resin, both of which can be shaded to match your natural tooth color and have a translucency that’s similar to natural tooth enamel. This means that veneers look just like natural teeth once they’re in place, giving you a beautiful new smile.

Q&A

How do veneers improve my smile?

Veneers cover up the entire front-facing surface of your tooth, effectively masking a wide range of cosmetic defects such as cracks, chips, or stains.

Dr. Rapal can also use veneers to augment and redesign your teeth, correcting teeth that are:

  • Too small
  • Widely spaced
  • Misshapen
  • Crooked

With veneers, the smile of your dreams is just a simple procedure away.

What are the steps involved in getting veneers?

First, you have a consultation with Dr. Rapal during which you pick out the size, shape, and color for your veneers. Dr. Rapal helps you make a selection that complements your existing teeth.

Once you’ve picked out your veneers, Dr. Rapal shaves a very small amount of enamel from the front of your teeth in order to make room for the veneers. The amount of enamel she removes is equivalent to the thickness of your veneers, which are very thin.

After Dr. Rapal prepares your teeth, she takes an impression of your mouth. She sends that impression to a lab that designs your veneers so that they fit perfectly on your teeth and sit comfortably in your mouth.

Patients should know that Dr. Rapal is very selective about the labs she works with, and makes sure she partners with ones that specialize in cosmetic dental restorations but keep natural esthetics and optimal functionality as a guide.

You wear a set of temporary veneers while you wait for the lab to finish building your permanent restorations.

When your permanent veneers are ready, you come back to Dr. Rapal to have them placed. Dr. Rapal removes your temporary veneers, cleans your mouth, and puts your permanent restorations in place. If everything looks and feels good, she uses dental cement to permanently bond them to your teeth, giving you a newly restored smile that you can begin showing off immediately.
